About Beach Ice Hockey
Legend
goes that our club was originally founded in 1978 by Steve Thrasher. The
first season’s uniforms matched more of the old New York Rangers style with
a red, white and blue color scheme. A few years later, the club disbanded
but was reborn in the early 1990’s. By the late ‘90s, the 49ers joined
Division II of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, an organization
that brings together fellow club hockey teams including local foes like
Univ. of Southern Calif., Loyola Marymount, San Diego State, Univ. of
Calif., Los Angeles, and more. The 49ers have donned uniforms matching the
classic Penguins style and the old school Bruins black and gold.
Long
Beach’s best season came in 2005-2006 when the 49ers finished ranked no. 4
in the West Region. The 49ers seemed poised to run through the Regional
Tournament on the way to Nationals, but were thwarted by the pesky Spartans
of San Jose State. Since then, the 49ers are still making noise in the West
and look to bring a championship to the great city of Long Beach!
